A Kitchen You Can Live In
When neighbors of the homeowners profiled in our Stainless Tile Beauty portfolio piece saw the end result of investing formal dining room space into a kitchen renovation, Peter Lawton was called in next door. While the strategy was similar, creating a comfortable, expansive eat-in kitchen primed for today's lifestyles, this solution to the design challenge emerged in a completely different way... reflecting this homeowner's taste and preferences for lighter wood, lighter granite and a more country feeling.
When the walls came "tumbling down" here, one open, airy L-shaped living space resulted. The final environment included a comfortable family room, tiled foyer with doorway to the back deck, and a bright, workable kitchen and dining area. Here a minimal European cooktop design, rather than a large professional range, was chosen and combined with performance-driven wall ovens.
Utilizing one of Peter's favorite design techniques, a corner sink installation (“countertop corners are always a waste of space and the perfect place to locate a sink”) allows the cook to enjoy her lovely backyard...where the family's two large dogs romp and play.
