With years a richer life begins...
One of the benefits of maintaining the same home for many years is the advantage that you know the place intimately and know exactly how you would like to change it. When the time comes, as it did for this homeowner, the transformation can be exciting and dramatic. This 1970s suburban home has been transformed room-by-room over the past decade into a designer showplace, with this new kitchen being the final crowning jewel.
Dark, rich woods contrast beautifully with glistening stainless. While the kitchen looks totally custom, the cabinets are actually semi-custom, which allowed Peter to invest the extra resources in decorative touches like crema mofil tumbled marble tile with antique bronze accent strips, resulting in a breathtaking textural backsplash that envelopes the room.
The home's backyard is beautiful in any season, so Peter opened up the kitchen to the environment with his signature custom window. The but-jointed glass surrounds a granite counter, which runs into the window well to literally offer a "window on the world" and gives the room an expansive feeling.
Adjacent to the dining area, a wet bar is cloaked in the same cabinetry and finishes as the main kitchen, with wine storage below for convenient serving at dinner, during parties and other events held in this comfortable kitchen.
Invisible to the eye, radiant floor heat was installed beneath the marble floor tile, which runs out into the three-season porch beyond. This convenient, invisible technology keeps this living space feeling cozy without the visual intrusion of baseboard heaters.
